SAX, BRAZIL, AND TREATING MEN FOR BV
Mar 25, 2025LIFE OF A BOOKMAN
Bookman: 1. a person who has a love of books and especially of reading. 2. a person who is involved in the writing, publishing, or selling of books. Oh, hi that's me!!
A bunch of books: The Daisy Chain has made it to Brazil!! I'm in Rio de Janeiro and my luggage was stuffed with the book. It's so fun being down here and hand delivering Daisy. It's even more fun swimming at the edge of a continent with a Saxophone player serenading us from a boat, talking with friends about what they loved about Daisy's story (some of them had well timed trips to the states right as the book released). The VERY fun updates on Daisy is that May will be month of gathering the many links in this Daisy chain IRL...I've got an event in Savannah and an event online that I can't wait to invite you to!
What I'm writing: I've started the interviews for my book about Jackie Silva volleyball icon and it's so fun being at the beginning of the process again. It's both exhilarating and maddening to know exactly what a book is about and also to not know what the book is about at all. It's creativity at it's finest, feeling the life force but having no idea what exactly it'll become. But, as I'm often reminded, the end is none of your business.
WOMEN’S STUDIES
What gets passed down becomes our history.
I've got all kinds of stray links for you this week. And they're interestingggg.
What is going on with men? This is a hot take on modern dating that talks to actual men about their dating struggles, how they feel about the apps, and yet still honoring women's totally valid experiences (truly, where do I start!!)
A third of women get Bacterial Vaginosis. Women know this. But what we didn't know is that you can treat this BY TREATING THEIR MALE PARTNERS. This is huge for women's health because historically the women that get BV get it over and over and over again, and they're put on antibiotics over and over and over again. I'd love to talk to the genius who finally asked the question: “Wait, maybe this is coming from the man??”
Figuring out how to feel about “With Love, Megan” was a VERY helpful podcast episode because while I didn't watch Markle's show, I watched the trailer with (my) Megan, aka my sister, and we were both highly turned off...even though I have a fondness for Megan Markle since falling for her in the Hallmark movie What Sparks Fly.
PASS IT ON
Stories are heirlooms. Here's one of mine:
Rio de Janeiro is a special, special place and if you ever have the chance to go...you must go. Bursting with color and FUN and delight, I've reunited with my life-long girlfriends (and many of the new friends I made last year while living here). But if there's one thing that I take away from being back in this vibrant city a year later, it's that your boat day needs it's own saxophone player (jkjk, but yes our boat day did come with a DJ and a Saxophone player and I've never been happier)...but in all sentimentness (made that up) I realized how quickly a year goes by and how much can shift and change with a bit of time. Between the group of us gals, some of our biggest worries about the future from March 2024 – like “What will happen with Daisy's book deal???” “I want a child but will I get pregnant?” “Will the reason we moved to Brasil actually be cemented and official?” – they ALL WORKED OUT. And not because they worked out how we thought they would or on the timeline we planned. But it was amazing to return to this place with my Daisy book in hand, hugging the big pregnant belly of one bestie while high-fiving the family success of the other, and realizing that if we trust ourselves, the future will unfold in her right time, in just the way we need. So whatever we're worried about in the future, again I'll remind you, the end is none of your business.
