MIAMI, PLACENTA, AND ZORA

LIFE OF A BOOKMAN
Bookman: 1. a person who has a love of books and especially of reading. 2. a person who is involved in the writing, publishing, or selling of books. Oh, hi that's me!!
From the Canon of Greats: Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston has been on my list...forever. Or sorta forever. Since reading A Life of One's Own: Nine Women Writers Begin Again (which ftr I HIGHLY recommend). Over the weekend, with the Miami sun shining on my face, I finally cracked this beautiful book open. I'm not finished yet, but I have no doubt that there will be MUCH to share, to discuss, and to contemplate. A Life of One's Own wrestles with how these writers struggled with big questions, like is domesticity a trap? What does it mean to live a life without the traditional goals of womanhood. I can already see these themes woven into Zora's Their Eyes Were Watching God. Add these both to your list!!
What I'm writing: Team, I'm feeling very creatively inspired. Because the books are moving. Daisy is getting amazing feedback. And I'm in constant conversation about our creative life force – in art, in relationships, in work, in our body, in setbacks – which led to a little lightbulb moment for a creative experiment I'm going to test out over the next year: an advice column for readers, writers and wannabes. Respond to this email if this is something you'd want to read!
WOMEN’S STUDIES
What gets passed down becomes our history. Let's talk about “andropause” – shall we?? The conveniently ignored male fertility decline. DID YOU KNOW men experience significant and gradual hormonal changes: decreased libido, fatigue, mood swings, and physical transformations that affect their reproductive capacity.
Yet society scrutinizes menopause while ignoring this male equivalent. Why? Because maintaining the myth that fertility is a “women's issue” serves patriarchal interests.
Science tells us inconvenient truths:
• Men's genes are crucial for placenta development
• Paternal alcohol use impacts conception and fetal health
• Aging sperm increases genetic disorder risks
Despite all of this, women bear the entire burden of reproductive responsibility while receiving a fraction of the research funding. Women are largely held accountable for outcomes that equally involve male biology. I think I'm going to start asking whiny men “if they're PMS'ing”...that should go over great.
PASS IT ON
Stories are heirlooms. Here's one of mine:
I danced my cute (not so little) ass off in Miami all weekend to celebrate the nuptials of my dear friend Emmy, the designer extraordinaire of Tribe and Temple – my go to accessory brand. She brought nine women together that were from very different parts of her life, and when I was reflecting on everyone getting along so beautifully, it was clear that when people who are self assured, who live to gas up others, and who have a big open heart come together, it's always a joy of a time. Speaking of supporting amazing women, if you're looking for the perfect pair of earrings for your next vacation, grab a pair from Tribe + Temple. Meet the artist you're buying from, and I dare you not to be impressed. I live for my hummingbirds, they always get me all the compliments!!
And omg check this BTS of Tribe+Temple shoot with a DAISY cameo!!
