bleeding, quickies and rose reflections

Bookman: 1. a person who has a love of books and especially of reading. 2. a person who is involved in the writing, publishing, or selling of books. Oh, hi that's me!!

Little reads: This fall I found myself buying the biggest books ever. I've turned a corner. Now I only want quickies. So Late in The Day by Claire Keegan has quenched my thirst for short-form fiction, with deep feeling. This book is three short and oh-so-powerful stories about the dynamics between men and women, especially when it comes to love, lust, and betrayal. Oh, and what stunning writing.

What I'm writing: Since I'm waiting for feedback on the next book, why not remind you of the last one? If you haven't read You're Not Lost: An Inspired Action Plan for Finding Your Own Way, the end of the year is a beautiful time for it. Get into reflection mode. Get into relationship with your own power. My little rose of a book will help you blossom into yourself. Five years later and I still love those 255 pages as much as ever. I think you will, too.

Women’s Studies

What gets passed down becomes our history. A few for the canon: My dear friend Jacqueline Twillie has a new book Dear Resilient Leader: A Guide For Underrepresented Leaders. I've had the privilege of collaborating with Jacqueline over the last decade, and I can promise you that her wisdom is forever on point. Buy this for yourself or for someone who could use the support to propel their career to new heights.

Pass It On

Stories are heirlooms. Here's one of mine: I just finished watching Are you there god? It's me, Margaret on the plane. While heading West in 18C, I was transported back to reading the book in 6th-ish grade. Both the book and the movie so beautifully capture the experience of a girl going through puberty...our questions, our concerns, our emotions, our awkwardness, our excitement. It's such a beautifully weird time that I wish was represented more in art. And shoot, maybe I'll need to be one of the voices to do it. As I sit here with my period raging, thinking about the humor in first menstruating straight through my freaking khaki pants, on crutches in the 7th grade, I realize I'm halfway through my menstruating life. That thought alone makes me sentimental?? Or maybe it's the raging period. Who knows, but more girls' puberty in art, please!!!

xx

My words are written just for you.
