The Flip Side to Manifestation We Never Talk About

Oct 18, 2022

It’s sorta impossible to scroll through social without seeing the words manifest, abundance or law of attraction on someone’s post. Honestly, sometimes those posts are mine. Because I’m a big believer that our energy matters, that it carries information and weight, and that our thoughts have so much more power than we realize when it comes to impacting our reality.

At the same time, I’ve been the first person to bitch about the overemphasis on manifesting. Because like anything, we must be careful not to over index on what we’re doing “right” or “wrong” (like should I be repeating mantras, or writing down the same sentence over and over again, or meditating, or visualizing or what?). If we do, we miss a really big part of the picture. While it’s super great to be “in alignment with your highest good”, there’s also serious societal structures that inhibit women, and especially women of color, in unfathomable ways. Like, sorry, but I’m pretty sure Jeff Bezos, Mark Zuckerberg, and Elon Musk aren’t billionaires because of their positive thoughts and manifestation practices.

But I digress. This letter to you isn’t about manifesting techniques, or even what’s wrong with an over emphasis on manifesting (as in, how it puts the blame on the person for not achieving success versus looking at the structures that keep them from it). This letter is about something way more fun, light, and wonderful. Obviously, I had to pontificate for just a hot second before I got to my actual story.

At the beginning of this year, my assistant of three years moved on to bigger and better things in her life. If you’d ever emailed in, you probably talked with her for a hot minute. So, I was flying solo all year. Which was fine for a minute, but as the year progressed and my creative projects expanded, I needed support that was more high-level and could get my booty into process and operational excellence. As I took a pen to what I really needed, one woman came to mind.

Alyse.

A few years ago, Alyse was gifted my book by her bestie Melissa. Together, they had both been so wildly supportive of You’re Not Lost, sending me DM’s about what it meant to them, recommending it to other women and writing reviews. If you ever wonder whether or not to reach out to the author of a book, whether they’re an international bestseller or self published, please do it. We appreciate your kind words and lightbulb moments more than you could ever know. It’s the whole reason we write.

But back to Alyse. I’d been following her journey of starting her own business as an Online Business Manager after we DM’d about my book. So, she was top of mind when I was looking for someone to help elevate the backend of my business. I DM’d her on instagram, hoping we could talk and see if my needs and her gifts aligned. Turns out…they did!!!…and we started working together earlier this fall. What a full circle moment. She reads my book, it plays a role in her professional journey, and we end up working together. That was enough to make my day. But just wait.

A few weeks into working together, I see one of her Instagram reels with the following caption:

@az_meyers

From Fangirl to HIRED

All because I bet on myself…💖

I just landed a DREAMY BEYOND DREAMY dream client 😭

This story starts back in 2020 during the pandemic. I left my full time job at an agency to be home with my girls for virtual school and I felt so uncertain about the future and what that looked like for me.

My best friend recommended a book 📖 to read for some inspiration and that book is what inspired me to start my business. I was so moved by it that I reached out to the author.

Why not right? 🤷🏻‍♀️

I told her how much her book meant to me and shared information about my business and the type of work I do.

Fast forward 2 years…⤵️

This summer, I lost a couple of retainer clients and was feeling pretty low. So when a client of mine gifted me an energy healing session, I jumped right on it. ✨The woman moved some energy blocks she picked up on and told me I was holding energy to make way more money in my business.

Sounds very “woo”, and it kind of was, but I shit you not I got off the call with her and within an hour, I got a DM from THE AUTHOR of the book I read 2 years ago. 😱 She was looking for support in her business and remembered me. WTF

She is now a retainer client of mine and I’m still pinching myself that this is my life. 🙏🏼

But had I not reached out and made that connection, it would never have happened. Sometimes, you just have to go for it right?

Give me a ❤️ if you needed this today!

.

Ok, so I’m reading this and thinking…wait, is she talking about me? Could be a different book… and a different client… so how about instead of being a complete narcissist, I check in with her first before assuming the world revolves around my book. Because WOW, killer story no matter who it’s about.

It was about me!!! I got to hear the story in real time and obviously my first question was, wait who is this energy healer though? Lolol but I digress.

What I haven’t been able to stop thinking about since learning of this story is how often we talk about what and who we desire to manifest in our lives. But we never talk about what it's like to BE THE ONE who was manifested.

Alyse’s story is by far the most dramatic, AND I’ve had a few others like it that have about moved me to tears. One recently was with an author I’m currently writing a book for. A year into working together I heard her tell the story of how we met, which is that she had done just a visualization and prayer situation about wanting to write her book, and boom…a random email from me showed up about supporting her publishing future. (I just remember thinking: this woman needs to write a book. How can I tell her what I know to make that journey easier for her?)

It’s really, really, really, mind-meltingly cool to find out that somehow, someway, in weird-ass divine timing you were the one called in. And I don’t know what it means. I don’t even know if I need to assign meaning to it, but I have found myself thinking about this a lot because I believe a few things to be true.

We all have helpers, guardian angels, and human-miracles guiding us forward. They’re lights on our path that show up when we need them most. And while that’s a beautiful sentiment that I think we can all agree to be true, what we forget is that WE are those lights, those angels, those called in “signs” for other people. ALL the time. How beautiful is that?

It should be a reminder to all of us that we hold a really unique power. Our gifts are just that, a gift to someone else. Which is why we shouldn’t shy away from them, deny them, be scared of them, or play them down. When we do that, we rob our ability to show up and play a part in someone else’s dream. Think about that when you smile at someone walking by you in the park. When you compliment a stranger. When you send a handwritten card just because. When you text someone you love them out of nowhere. When you share what you know with someone who might want or need to know it. In the smallest moments and in the most regular of ways, you’re exactly what someone needed to move forward, chin up. As you’ve heard me say before, you never know who you’re inspiring.

So, spread a little of your love today. As much as you’re manifesting, you’re being manifested…and that’s a beautiful thing.

Even upon writing this, I’m still not entirely sure what it means to be the one “called in” for someone else…but I can’t wait to hear your thoughts on it. Has this ever happened to you? How did you interpret it? Reply to this email and let me know!! (And yes both Alyse and I will be reading it!)

My words are written just for you.
