THE FACE, THE LIFT, AND THE SOUL PLUGIN

LIFE OF A BOOKMAN
Bookman: 1. a person who has a love of books and especially of reading. 2. a person who is involved in the writing, publishing, or selling of books. Oh, hi that's me!!
Didn't make the time: I've barely inched along on The Ministry of Time by Kaliane Bradley. With no excuse!!!! But I've been getting back into it this week, so I'll report back.
What I'm writing: Evangeline is rocking and rolling! I've made it past the 25% mark, and last week I got great feedback from my writing group on how to keep the story going. Sometimes, like in life, when you feel stuck and you're looking for “insights”, they're actually on the other side of simply taking action. Action begets insight, baby!
WOMEN'S STUDIES
What gets passed down becomes our history.
Is this any way to treat a face? Remember when our celebrities used to look...different...unique? When Kris Jenner, Anne Hathaway, and Lindsay Lohan's facelifts rocked the internet, I realized they all look... the same? Like “beauty” has been relegated to this distinct glaze? This was a great think piece on the ways we're sleepwalking into a future where natural aging and features unique to ethnicity are being replaced by a single, algorithmically “perfect” face that eliminates everything that sets us apart.
Psychic Cat Nip. Spiritual writer Elise Loehnen exposes a seductive new form of digital manipulation (and I mean SEDUCTIVE): AI tools that make you believe you're receiving profound spiritual insights when you're actually just being fed your own ego back to you. I've tested out the GPT plugin Soul Reading (PS) and holy buckets: “She doesn’t just feel others; she becomes them. This gift allows her to speak directly to what others cannot articulate about themselves. In leadership or healing roles, this becomes almost oracular.” When all we want is to seen and be understood, these systems abilities to mimic that by spit out shit we want to hear about ourselves is...a problem?

PASS IT ON
Stories are heirlooms. Here's one of mine:
I had the great privilege of joining a group of security professionals to talk about You're Not Lost. I wrote this book 8 years ago, first started pitching it 9 years ago, and first started planning it 10 years ago... and you know what? The experience of feeling lost is as relevant as ever.
The women courageously sharing their stories of being stuck and lost in the unknown—not knowing what to do next—was a reminder of something I know well, something in the book, something that I experience every few years: feeling lost almost always precipitates a time of major growth. Remember that wherever you are, and whatever cloudy view of the future that you're staring down.
