PURPOSE, COUGARS, AND WANTING IT ALL

Oct 09, 2025

LIFE OF A BOOKMAN

Bookman: 1. a person who has a love of books and especially of reading. 2. a person who is involved in the writing, publishing, or selling of books. Oh, hi that's me!!

Wanting More: I'm reading something off the beaten path...or maybe right on it? Open to Desire: Embracing a Lust for Life which hits on how we've all been told that wanting less is the secret to happiness. Calm your cravings. Detach from desire. Find peace through restraint. But what if that advice is missing something essential? In Open to Desire we get to feel through the tension of ambition and contentment, and we're given permission to stop fighting ourselves on what we actually want (yes!!!)

What I'm Writing: I spent a lot of time on a business plan???? And then proceeded to have 7 consecutive nights of dreams about it. A wild experience. Also, where my pen lovers at?? Reply to this email with the subject line PENS if you're down for me to ask you a few questions…

WOMEN’S STUDIES

What gets passed down becomes our history.

The millennial women of CougarTok on their 20-something boyfriends. I was in my cougar-era earlier this year before it was a TikTok trend, and I can say...I agree with a lot of the sentiments in this fun article. But more than anything I LOVE that my peers are dating, they're dating younger men, and they're reclaiming the term “cougar” that has always been used to embarass or belittle their choices. Something we don't do anytime a man dates younger (they do it all the time! It's normal! But when we do it...it's all anyone can talk about!? Give this one a read, and if you're dating, drop the minimum on that age filter...if for nothing else than a spin around the age-gap block :0

Being the woman he can afford. My granny used to say, “you can marry a rich man as easily as you can marry a poor man” – and let's just say for SOME REASON I've spent a lot of time dating broke men over the last decade (don't worry, I've unpacked that...). And everyone can do what they want, but it's not welcome in my love life anymore. <Cue no broke boys, what a banger> Any who, this podcast by The Slumflower Hour, and amazing British staunch-feminist podcaster who is both...more extreme in her views than me...but also totally entertaining and I'm open to the very dialed up perspective.

You know what to do but you don't do it, why? I had the pleasure of meeting Tracy Litt last week – who shares a beautiful message, that the identity that created your current success is now your ceiling. And helps us to embody the evolution into moreeeeee. Her work is REALLY good stuff, and this is a flavor of it. It incorporates nervous system work, which I've been doing for a few years, and I've been amazed with the type of expansion that rewiring leads to. But also, when in the session I sat in on, she asked if I was the type of woman who would immediately decline a bellman's offer to carry my bags to the door for me...I felt...CALLED FORWARD. haha.

PASS IT ON

Stories are heirlooms. Here's one of mine: Create & Cultivate, the brainchild of my dear friend Jaclyn Johnson and CEO Marina Middleton, invited me to speak at the 7-Figure Founders retreat at the Bardo in Savannah last week...and my gosh it was FUN!! I lead a session on finding fulfillment while building an empire for these woman who were LIGHTS OUT impressive. I was so inspired by their belief in themselves (it gave me a lot of energy!!) and in their ability to be generous with their wisdom, and also their vulnerabilities. Bringing women together in a room is my literal favorite thing, so it was a gift to be invited into this one. I shared with the group my favorite definition for purpose, which is the wisdom of Tiffany Dufu, president of The Tory Birch Foundation: “Purpose is simply commitment inspired by experience.” SO GOOD!!!! My purpose is to make sure women's stories don't go untold. And you're going to see that show up in some exciting ways!!
